SEASONS

It is clear that the seasons on the Earth are caused by where the axis is tilted. If the axis remained straight up and down, the temperature and daylight would remain the same. There would not be any seasons. The only reason the Earth has seasons is because the axis is tilted at about 23.5 degrees as it revolves around the sun. That is why we have winter and summer. For instance, in December the Northern Hemisphere is pointed away from the sun; therefore, the days are shorter and it is colder. On the other hand, in the summer the days are longer and it is warmer because there is more direct sun. Surprisingly the Earth is closest to the sun on January 6th, which means that the distance from the sun doesn't affect the seasons.
